Finally, it seems that this is what I've needed to hear all along. Some validation that I'm not the only one who feels that anxiety when struggling to start a paper with no real idea of where to go. I like her point, and will definitely take this into consideration from now on. I think this practice of free writing can be very useful and her point should be expressed to more people. I used to always write my first draft as if I was already writing my final paper. Attempting to correct every mistake I wrote as I wrote it, and keeping that mentality of a perfectionist as I continued. But this idea that our first drafts are meant to be bad gives a lot of freeway and I feel even has the ability to improve ones writing. You have to fail first before you succeed.
